The Somers Camp
Today the families were invited to visit the Somers camp, so we trotted off with Melissa's mate Juliet tagging along.

It's a cracking camp, right near the beach with proper dorms and Cam seemed to enjoy the structure to it all. He described it as nearer to boarding school than a camp.

We all enjoyed a picnic with the girls deciding they were honorary sisters for the day

Dear Mum and Dad
Note from Cammy's camp....
Dear Mum and Dad,
It's my first day and I've got so much to tell you!
First of all there's a challenge swing 19.5m high! And there's a high ropes course 5m off the ground! There are no desks, so I'm writing on my lap.
Tomorrow we've got
- Environmental Studies
- Library
- Archery
- Orientation (he meant orienteering)
I'm so excited
Cameron
PS The custard creams don't have a plastic thing behind the pack, so I had to put them in the Mars Bar pack and everyone saw so I had to give everyone a custard cream!

Another camping trip for Cammy
Cammy is off again. This time off for an 8 day camp at Somers with school. He did well to get on this one as each of those interested had to write a note about why they were a good person to choose and then only a handful from eahc school in the area were selected. Can't wait to hear the stories....

Camping trip 2011 - Part 3
Time to go home. Annoyingly it rained while we had breakfast and soaked the tents. No real issue, but made packing up a bit muckier. Spirits lifted however when we visited San Remo. A great beach, paddling in the shade of the bridge.
Marshall enjoyed being buried by Uncle Pete. (artily sideways as the jpg was playing up!!)

Camping trip 2011 - Part 2
First stop...Woollamai. Cracking beach with some great waves.

Even the oldies had a surf. Cammy invented a fun game which involved Sam, Pete and Tich standing with their backs to the waves and hands on heads to see who could stand up longest, not easy with the surf we had that day.

After Woolamai we decided to go back to the campsite to try out the pool.

After that we had another trip to another beach, which allowed all to enjoy a bit of rockclimbing. We also got to see Marshalls crab catching skills.
Has to be said, cracking spot for portraiture.......

Camping trip 2011 - Part 1
It's that time of year again when the boys disappear for a weekend and give the tents an airing. This time Phillip Island was the chosen destination with a nice campsite booked just west of Cowes.
Friday night was setup time, with all mucking in to set up the three normal tents and Tich's palatial 'three roomer'. Bag of chips at Cowes, hot chocolate on the camping stove and then time for a kip. (well some kip, I think all struggled with to get a decent night skip, but suppose that's all part of the fun!!)

Not a bad nights sleep, hardest bit was getting out bed at night for a wee, think Sammy's a bit old for a dome tent. Still we all got up ready for a fun day but enjoyed a lazy breakfast of Bacon sarnies and pancakes...

Pops switches to Hockeys
As a treat for the girls, Gemma and Melissa went ice skating bright and early on Sunday. Both girls decided to follow their dad's advice and switch from 'girly' figure skates to the clearly more cool hockeys. Gemma seemed to take to it naturally, Melissa needing a little more coaching but getting it in the end. We'd better go again soon to cement this critical lesson in becoming a true Dawson!!

Another one.....
Another natural disaster. Mother Nature is having a fair old bash at this side of the world. Major floods still ongoing in Brisbane, cyclone Yasi, earthquake wrecks Christchurch and tonight a scary looking Tsunami in Japan. Reckon there are a lot of poeple looking forward to 2012.

Lurgy bites
It's been niggling at us for a week or so. Pops had last Monday off school, but this weekend it won. Sara felt like poo all weekend and not much better on Sunday. even Sammy, who normally manages to avoid colds, had to have a lie down after getting back from Avalon and wasn't much better on the Monday in Brissy. Cammy appears to have avoided it as usual!!

More F's than you can shake a stick at
Today Cam and Sam went off to the Avalon airshow. Sam had been to three of the trade days so was a little bored of the drive, but going with Cammy made it all seem much different and exciting again.
We got there about 10:15 so missed a bit of the start and there was a decent queue to get in, but managed a leisurely stroll through the Gold Pass entrance and straight over to see the star of the show, the F-22 Raptor.

Now it should have been flying really, reckon it was a bit of a swiss that it only sat on the ground, but still nice to see it. We then found our seats in the stand to watch a few decent planes, F16, F18, C27, C130 and displays from the Roulettes and others. It was a bit hot though so we didn't stay to the end, but a throughly enjoyable day.
Meanwhile Sara and Melissa had been to see Gnomeo and Juliet at the flicks. Sara has a stinking cold so fancied something simple as entertainment......

Remember When

Finally, one of the current Country greats made it to Australia, Alan Jackson. All four of us went along and even though Melissa was a bit sleep, great to hear some classics live, like Remember when, Where were you when the world stopped turning, Don't rock the jukebox and Here in the real world. As Alan would have said, we've been working all week, we were tired but we don't wanna sleep, we wanna have fun, it's time for a GOOD TIME.
